Position Purpose:
A Software Engineer will develop or modify programs based on project specifications and client submissions. They work closely with other team members to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements and input data use.
Responsibilities Include:
Perform the following tasks under limited direction:
o Create coding to convert financial information from old database formats to those compatible
with new software.
o Design code, install and maintain software programs.
o Assist in the identification, evaluation, tailoring, and implementation of vendor-supplied
software packages.
o Evaluate the performance of installed software by utilizing available aids to monitor trends, loads and growth patterns.
o Analyze dumps and apply fix procedures.
o Prepare documentation for use by computer operations, applications programming, and user
personnel.
o Provide technical assistance and information to other systems software, computer operations, applications programming, and data communications personnel at all centers with this environment.
o Assist the training to applications programming and user personnel in the use of software and related hardware facilities.
o Review new designs, enhancements and programs with systems analysts and applications
programming personnel for operating efficiencies.
o Assist in design, coding, and installation of database management systems.
o Analyze specifications for applications enhancements for compatibility with other systems and within operating guidelines.

Qualifications:
Education:
An associate's degree is required for this role
Job Related Experience
:
o At least 1 year programming and /or analyst or related experience.
o Experience with PC/LAN usage in a software development environment
Additional Skills/Knowledge:
o Strong knowledge of programming (i.e. program design, coding, testing, debugging, etc)
o Strong knowledge of how the pieces of a program fit together for the purpose of meeting the requirements of an application.
o Strong knowledge of how to document program design, coding, and maintenance.
o Strong understanding of how critical project completion is to client satisfaction.
o Good knowledge of the relationship of how the software being used relates to the hardware being used.
o Ability to interact with external, as well as, internal clients for the purpose of data gathering and design initiation
Preferred
Qualifications:
o Strong knowledge of the new technologies emerging in the financial data processing industry
o Strong positive approach to establishing and evolving standards
o Experience with UNIX, Progress, PERL, or C is beneficial
o Knowledge of SQL, DB2, or Progress databases is desired
o Familiar with Microsoft Word & Excel
o Financial industry interest and experience is recommended
