Train and educate outpatient coding specialists to appropriately assign codes to diagnoses and procedures for outpatient medical records using current coding classification system. Assess coding accuracy of outpatient coding specialists and provide quality review reports to coding supervisors, managers and directors. Compiles quality data and conducts data analysis on overall coding department accuracy rates related to outpatient coding. Conducts training forums as well as individual training sessions with outpatient coding specialists. Prepares outpatient training materials and course curriculums. Provides periodic outpatient training reports to the coding leadership team. Coding assignments are made for the purposes of reimbursement, research, compliance with federal and state regulations/guidelines and for severity of illness. Must be able to provide appropriate feedback in order to meet quality standards. Requires ongoing review and adherence to a multitude of regulatory requirements that are constantly changing. Applies professional knowledge and uses critical thinking skills to validate and assign codes to meet various payment groupings and medical necessity. Works extensively with electronic medical record.
Prior coding classification education required. Must meet qualifications of a Level II Coding Specialist. Knowledge of DRG and other payment methodologies essential. Prior training or mentoring experience preferred. Prior computer and/or encoder software experience desirable. Work requires extreme attention to detail and work which meets high ethical standards, logical thinking and the ability to acquire an intricate knowledge of system software and hardware. Knowledge of components of the medical record. Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes and medical terminology. Must be familiar with operative terms and pharmacology. Flexibility and an ability to work in a team environment. Ability to teach and mentor other team members. Must be able to interpret and decipher physician and other care giver handwriting and documentation. Computer proficiency for use in daily work processes. Work is extremely detailed and requires high accuracy rate to meet regulatory requirements. Must provide clear and concise feedback to coding specialist for continued growth and education. Provide feedback on an ongoing basis to management in regards to how the trainee is performing. Works closely with management to identify areas of opportunity for education and training of all staff.
_When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students._
Required Experience
RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS required. Individuals will be highly encouraged to pursue CCS and other coding credentials.
Associate degree in Health Information Technology (or eligible) or Bachelors degree in Health Information Management and/or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
