Position DescriptionThe Behavioral Health Epidemiology intern will work with state-level mental health or substance use data to complete at least one analysis project.
The subject of this project will meet the needs of DBH with considerations to the interests of the intern.
In addition to completing a project, this intern will assist with data management for discretionary grants, data collection from national databases, analyzing data, and reporting key data points.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and other Microsoft programs required.
Interns will gain an understanding of mental health and substance use within South Dakota.
Interns will gain professional development in civil service and understanding of community behavioral health along with exposure to statistical software, such as Power BI and R programming.
Successful candidates should possess strong critical thinking and evaluation skills as well as effective communication abilities.
Preference will be given to candidates with coursework or experience related to public health, research methods, statistics.
Preference for individuals with knowledge or experience in the behavioral health field.
QualificationsApplicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
