Responsibilities:
Evaluate existing software models, code, scripts to understand function and purpose Translate existing software models, code, scripts (developed by team scientists) into streamlined code to improve processing efficiency and effectiveness Contribute to developing new methods via Artificial Intelligence using Neural Network and Machine Learning approaches to create land cover and land change monitoring products Design and execute code on HPC and Cloud Computing (Amazon Web Services, Google Earth Engine) environments Analyze code and modeling results to propose improvements and efficiencies Perform code development on assigned tasks Document testing and implementation efforts through generation of test plans, procedures, and reports Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
Experience:
2-3 year of related experience in a Software Engineering environment is desired. Experience with remote sensing data (e.g. Landsat), image processing, geospatial data, Machine Learning, High Performance Computing, Cloud Computing, statistics a plus Required Skills:
Python and C/C+
Experience developing code in various environments, such as Windows, Linux, and Cloud Understanding of software configuration management, code repositories (e.g. Git), and version control Knowledge of software testing and debugging best practices Strong professional communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with project team members, partners, and government customers Desired Skills:
Perl, R Machine Learning:
linear regression, non-linear regression, regression structural breaks, Generalized Additive Modeling, KMeans cluster analysis, PCA, MFA, Cubist, See5, Deep Neural Network, XGBoost High Performance Computing:
optimization, multi-threading, distributed computation Cloud Computing:
Amazon Web Services, Google Earth Engine Big data manipulation and analysis:
use C++, R, Python, Jupyter Notebooks to efficiently manipulate large amounts of data GIS software such as:
QGIS, ArcGIS, ERDAS, ENVI Statistics Background:
medians, means, p-values, residuals, CI, correlation, R2 Familiarity with geospatial datasets and satellite imagery such as Landsat The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain credentials for facility access and user accounts. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the U.S. and resided in the U.S. for the previous 3 years.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
